The chart above comes from the 2010 Social Media Marketing Industry Report which was published last week.
The data was compiled in January 2010 from 1900 marketers (including ODM) and whilst it is US biased it does provide a valuable insite into some interesting Social Media Marketing trends.
Of particular interest to our readers are the insights into how much time people spend on Social Media per week. The results show a high concentration people spend as little as 6 hours per week. In my experience most people can build this into even the busiest schedule.
This time can be split between these three primary
- Research (circa 25%) – listening to your market place and contacts, reading blogs, your Twitter feed, LinkedIn groups, monitoring your products/brand market research and also keeping an eye on your competitors.
- Commenting and Communicating (circa 50%) – Participating in forums, writing blog posts, interaction on Twitter. Tweet/re-tweet links to peoples’ stuff. Use bookmarking sites like StumbleUpon, Delicious, Facebook share and tools that help people find the good stuff.
- Content Creation (circa 25%) – Creating your own content by blogging, making video or audio, creating email newsletters or anything else to contribute to your market space.
If you are interested in learning more about how to use Social Media and other forms of on-line marketing techniques, then why not come along to one of our SEO and Social Media marketing seminars that we run each month.
