In April 2009 Mike Hurst launched a new site for Rockmasters as a vehicle to promote the Rockmaster courses, lecture tours, albums, school musicals and books. The concept of running a search engine optimised website was new for Mike and he wanted a site he could maintain with minimal effort and skill. The team at Oxford Digital Marketing helped Mike by discussing the options with him and helping to define a strategy around which the site would be optimised to show up well in the search engines.
The plan called for a low cost solution that could be rolled out in phases over time and be easy enough for Mike to manage as a background task. The site is implemented using WordPress for a number of reasons:
- It is very easy for Mike to manage his own content
- It is a good platform for us to optimise the site for the search engines
- We can evolve new site designs without having to implement a completely new site
The site was up and running within a few days and after we carried out some basic search engine optimisation the site has been enjoying a growing number of visitors. More importantly it is attracting visitors that have enquired which have already resulted in considerable sales for the Summer courses.
Mike was initially a bit bemused by us banging on about keyword optimisation and other aspects required to optimise his content for the search engines, but having now seen the results, he is delighted and we are going to the next stage and planning a phase 2 rollout.
